Muxima is a small town near Luanda in the district of Quicama. The small town is considered the most important place of
pilgrimage of Angola, even before Libolo. The Catholic Church "Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Muxima" is the destination of the pilgrims.
Every year on August 31 and September 1, over one million people visit the Muxima. The church depicts the depiction of the Virgin Mary.
Since 1833, after a suspected Marian apparition, Muxima is the most important place of pilgrimage of Angola and the adjacent areas. In 1924, the church was listed as a historical
monument.
As well as the church, the "Fort Muxima" was also listed as a historical monument in 1924. In addition, the historic
center of Muxima as a whole, is one of the state-registered monuments of Angola.
The bustling small market in front of the church, which provides the pilgrims with food, as well as the river Cuanza are no less worth seeing than the large monuments.
